Bali Information –Basic Tips of Villa Amrita

We want to give our guests the best information possible to help them prepare for the trip of a life time to Bali. Bali is in the process of making huge changes to their roads and highways. Traffic is probably the biggest problem for visitors to the island. Long waits in a car on the way to an activity or site is the last thing people want to be doing on their vacation. The good thing is that the government in Bali has already begun an extensive project to modernize and improve the islands relatively weak transportation infrastructure.

It takes about one hour and possibly ten minutes to reach Ubud Villas and Villa Amrita from the Airport. On a Sunday, on a holiday like Galungan (usually in February and August) or later at night (after 8pm), it is possible to reach the airport from Ubud in less than 45 minutes.

You do not need to plan more than 1.5 hours to reach the airport from Villa Amrita.

You should always prepare 150,000 IDR (rupiah only) to pay the exit tax to leave the NgurahRai Airport. On arrival, you can buy a visa on arrival for $25 USD. It is possible to expedite the long wait in the airport by paying the young men in the blue shirts approximately $20 USD per person to speed you through without waiting. However, we do not recommend this. Instead, you should examine the situation and choose the immigration line that is being handled by TWO immigration officers. Even with long lines, lines serviced by two immigration personnel will go remarkably fast.

Always plan airport pick up in advance. It may seem pricy or you may feel like you can get the best deal by haggling, but you may find yourself sweating, nervous, tired, thirsty or just plain annoyed if you don’t plan your airport pick up in advance. It costs no less than 250,000 rupiah to go to Ubud from the international airport. We believe that it is impossible to get cheaper than this unless you have your own car.

Always bring a bottle of wine or your favorite spirit with you to Bali. The cost of alcoholic drinks in Indonesia is exorbitant. We advise guests to plan ahead and buy something at duty free.

There are a lot of activities, spa trips, meals and places to visit that can be arranged quickly, easily and cheaply. For the best price and most favorable conditions we urge you to plan ahead. This is both to ensure safety, clarity and also get the best price.

Electricity is 220v. The electricity plug for Indonesia is specialized. Most of the higher end Bali resorts; villas and hotels have adapters, but beware lower end Bali accommodation.

Do not change too much money in the airport as the exchange rate is always 5% lower than out on the street in the popular tourist areas. Be careful using ATM’s because they will never provide more than USD$350 in local currency and will likely top you out at $120. Cash remains the best way to travel in Bali.

You can easily get a cheap Bali SIM card and simple phone for maximum 300,000IDR (roughly $32 USD). You can add credit to it as you like. Wireless internet is available in a lot of pubs, restaurants and hotels for free, so having a device like a tablet PC, smart phone or notebook is handy.

It is important to know that Bali is currently of creating a road that will directly connect the international airport with the road to Sanur, Ubud and to other parts of the island such as Candidasa, Tulamben and Amed. This is an incredible development as it will cut the travel time to these areas by at least 30 minutes. This is a major improvement.  The international airport itself is undergoing major overhaul and the new, larger and much more modern airport is supposed to open in 2015.

There is also construction underway to improve the trip from the international airport to Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and beyond. Due to Bali’s important role in the region as a hub for international conferences, including the 2013 APEC summit, the mad dash to improve driving conditions is officially in full swing.  By the end of next year, there will be tunnels and other traffic improvements that will make it no longer necessary to wait if you wish to go straight to Seminyak, Canggu or Tanah Lot.

If this kind of development did not happen Bali would and could never emerge as a full-blown, first-rate vacation destination in the region. Granted Bali is already incredibly popular with tourists, both foreign and domestic, but for the island to really become a lasting, premium location it needs to improve these problems.

Ubud Villas General Services

Ubud has been a place of great mystique and fascination for several decades now. It wasn’t until the 1980’s really that foreigners came here in any numbers or with too much frequency. Clearly there were visitors, some substantial, well before that, but up to that point Ubud was still a bit of a hidden mystery. To have several “old timers” describe it, Ubud had no roads or electricity, or at least not many, in those days to even make a phone call would have been difficult except for a couple places in the center of the city.Slow-paced and rural, practically everything in Ubud was shut down and completely dark by 9:00 pm. In addition, most of the entire area of Ubud was nearly all full of rice paddies until fairly recently.

Clearly you can see a lot has changed since then. There has been phenomenal growth, which still remains ongoing today, that has transformed the place in ways and to a point that it must be nearly unrecognizable on some levels. However, that does not diminish any of the city and this area’s charm and appeal. Ubud is dynamic, exciting and unique in several ways compared to the rest of the world. That is not to say it is best or devoid of problems as something can be said for anywhere on Earth and all places face troubles, but Ubud is different and special.

These people have created and developed one of the most fascinating places in the world. The fact is, there are very few places like Ubud and Bali. Ubud is a bastion of strict mystical Balinese Hindu practices and beliefs. It is also a superbly lush and verdant with unique geography made sweet by a somewhat mild climate. The place has become the home and heart of some of the more devout and conspicuous cultural and artistic displays here. Commercially and socially, Ubud is robust and full of entrepreneurs, tour operators, artisans, bohemians, connoisseurs, shop keeps and restaurateurs, but it has always maintained a laid back and free-spirited feel. New age, liberation, spirituality, well being and healthy living are actively practiced on some level throughout. There is also a strong love for art, literature, music and food here.

The ultimate peaceful destination, Ubud Villas has become a place-to-relax, unwind, meet people, seek romance, learn-about-self, and get-back-in-touch kind of venue. If you’re looking for culture, comfort, nature, entertainment, fun, culinary pursuits or plain old inspiration, Ubud has some incredible things that make Bali so interesting. There are picturesque rice fields, ancient temples, rivers, waterfalls, palaces, museums, art galleries, wonderful people, tons of great food, comfortable climate and a wild variety of interesting adventure activities from horse, elephant and ATV riding to canyoneering, mountain biking and river rafting. There is also an incredibly varied amount of interesting accommodation from home stays to luxury villas.

Ubud is made up of a small main town and several small villages that surround it. It is about 24 to 33 Celsius year round with typically frequent, short rains (which can vary) that help to make the place very green. There are a lot of diverse shopping, indoor/outdoor activities, dining and entertainment concentrated in this place. There is also a rich tradition of celebration, learning, goodwill and openness that carries on to today. Almost anyone would have a positive, meaningful and possibly unforgettable experience if they spent just a week in Ubud, Bali.

We invite you to experience this uncommon place in extraordinary style and luxury. An amazing location, architecture, facilities and comfort are to be found at Villa Amrita. You cannot imagine a better way to relax. Modern and traditional, stimulating and soothing, Villa Amrita is the perfect base for exploring Ubud and Bali to its absolute fullest.

Bali Info - the Island of a Thousand Temples

Balinese culture is unique in the world. It has developed over more than a thousand years and represents a hybrid of various tribal practices, mysticism and traditional Hinduism. The number and variety of special ceremonies, practices and traditions on the island are remarkable and interesting. The local people maintain a tight-knit community that works to perpetuate and promote religiousness, piety and preservation of ancient ways. From the interesting culinary practices, special cultural artifactsto distinct ways of dress, the Balinese are fascinating.

One thing is for sure, you cannot go anywhere in Bali without catching a glimpse of a beautiful and magnificent temple complex. Cities, palaces, villages and even private homes all have some form of temple (pura) erected for the worship of the gods and of ones’ ancestors. A temple in Bali is can be constructed in various ways with differing levels of sophistication. The temples are made up of a series of concentric or interconnecting zones or compounds surrounded by high walls. The area inside these compounds consists of shrines, towers and different pavilions (bale). The architecture in Balinese temples are made of classic red brick and intricate stone carvings with iconic split gates, towers,  plenty of statues, elaborate wooden structures and both thatched grass and terracotta roofs.

Temples in Bali are located in different geographic locations for differing reasons and to appease specific deities or facing certain directions in order to protect the island from evil spirits. The temples all have a specific function and are visited at different times in the year. The really incredible thing about Bali is that there are many sacred and important temples that were built an astonishingly long time ago. There are several temples built more than 1,000 years ago and some that are several centuries old. There are few places in the world you can visit that feature so many ancient relics.

Nominated a world heritage site, the mother temple of Besakih in Karangasem regency is positioned on the side of Mount Agung (the principal volcano in Bali) at over 1,000 meters in elevation and is considered the most important temple in Bali. Besakih was built in the 14th century and consists of 22 different and distinct sections with dozens of temples, courtyards, gates, walkways and a throne all surrounded by incredible views.

Pura Tirta Empul is a remarkable temple in the foothills of the mountains on the way to Kintamani. It was built in 926 A.D. on a site with a large water spring. The temple is famous as a place for the Balinese to go for ritual purification.

Taman Ayun is a fabulous ‘family temple’ built in 1634 by the King of Mengwi. Located just outside of Tabanan, Taman Ayun is a “beautiful garden” temple generally considered one of the most magnificent in Bali. The wide, terraced grounds are meticulously maintained and are surrounded by waterways, ponds and bridges.

Said to have been established in the 11th century, Goa Lawah, or the “Bat Cave”, is considered to be one of the nine directional temples in Bali. Goa Lawah is home to a large community of bats. The temple can easily be visited as a stop on the way to Candidasa.

There are more temples in Bali including perhaps the most iconic of all, Tanah Lot. Said to have been built in the 1500’s, Tanah Lot is the focus of an annual Balinese pilgrimage and an important ‘sea temple’. Visit our site at http://villaamrita.com

The Newest Addition to Villa Amrita

After nearly 9 full months of operating Villa Amrita, we have begun to understand that a treasure is really not a treasure until or unless it can be seen, experienced, consumed or shared by many people. A beautiful work of art, a flashy sports car or even a special person or place cannot really be fully appreciated unless it (or he/she) can be accessed or seen by more people who find it remarkable, exceptional or realize its value.

In this day and age the most effective and quickest way to advertise and promote something great is to share with many people through social media. Facebook, Twitter, G+, Reddit, Yelp, Foursquare, Linkedin, Pinterest, Tumblr and so many others are the newspaper and TV ads of the cyber age. We know that people find some something they might like by seeing and learning what others like. Peer reviews are more accessible, and therefore more effective than ever before.

We know that almost anyone who visits Villa Amrita is going to be impressed by the beauty, comfort and access to so many activities, nice people and great foods. It is hard to not like staying here. That is why we want to try to get the word out. Bali has been a popular travel destination or many years, but some of the greatest spots on the island are little known. The Conrad, Hard rock Bali and the W are famous chain hotels, but they still sometimes lack that “wow” factor. These hotels can be fun and lovely, but there is nothing like visiting a place and staying in your own private home – Bali villas.

In an effort to do our best to share the value and wonder of Villa Amrita, we have made another small investment. We purchased the Ice Appliance Ice Cream Maker Pro for the villa. See the video and description here: http://www.iceappliance.com/products/p4_ice-cream-pro.html
This professional machine makes creating tasty ice cream simple and quick. No need for days of preparation or to wait overnight, this little contraption yields the soft, delicious desert in one hour. With no need for special tools, chemicals, salt and with no sound, the Ice Cream maker cranks out your favorite flavor in no time flat.

We will begin making ice cream in various flavors for our Villa Amrita guests for free in October. We have many plans to eventually make fresh ice cream with fruits from our own garden, such as lime, mango, papaya, mangosteen, banana and others. The possibilities are limitless. We can visit Big Tree Farms and buy some organic cocoa beans and add raw sugar, organic eggs, fresh milk and perhaps some mint from our garden!

By offering a scrumptious, free dessert for our guests, we want to encourage our guests to share good times. In return for free homemade ice cream we ask that Villa Amrita guests share with us their best photos of fun, family and romance at and around the Villa. Come and post on our Face book page http://www.facebook.com/VillaAmrita  and email your photos to reservations@villaamrita.com

Give us your feedback, share with us (and your friends) the good times you are having on your vacation at Villa Amrita in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. Email your photos to us so we can create a cool collage of images that represent the magic and exclusivity. Help us to get the word out. By encouraging the most valuable commodity - user generated content, we do the best we can to promote the coolest Ubud villa in Bali!

The Beauty of Bali Villa Life

Some of the greatest things about visiting Bali are the wide variety of fun things to do, beautiful places to go/see and the many great kinds of food to eat. The interesting and unique local culture also adds a specific allure. Bali is a fascinating place unlike any place else on Earth. The volcanoes, beaches and thousand-year old temples are stunning. Bali is truly one-of-a-kind.

When we go on vacation we typically only get a glimpse of the local lifestyle, its customs and the true nature of its’ people. Often we retreat to our sanitized hotel rooms intent on keeping a schedule, ticking off a list of “things to do”. Seldom do we get a chance to sample authentic homegrown cuisine, chat at length with interesting local figures or discover what it really means to be a native. The things that make Bali so special can easily be missed if one is not focused and careful. Bali can easily serve up a ultra-relaxing tropical vacation full of banana-boating, sipping cocktails and chilling out poolside. The island has been catering to foreign guests for decades and has done very well at it. Food, entertainment and good  Ubud accommodation are all abundant. Still, it is possible to miss the forest for all the trees.

When staying in Bali it is very important to see, do and learn as much as possible. In order to get the most from your trip it is best to choose to stay in a private villa. Villas are often an excellent way to maximize you vacation experience. Typically set on a private property and serviced by a dedicated team of local personnel, villas are the ultimate in convenience, flexibility and possibility. Across Bali there are many fantastic villas. If you choose a special villa, you can get a lot more from your time on the Island than perhaps you would if you stayed in a regular hotel. Essentially private homes, villas are often situated among small neighborhoods inhabited by local people. Usually built in relative seclusion away from busy tourist centers, many villas in Bali are integrated into the local community offering a glimpse into the daily lives of the Balinese.

Having an entire team of professionals dedicated to serving you and your family only, visitors can have the chance to mingle with numerous individuals of differing ages, experience and social background. Conversations and interaction that might not occur between the housekeeping staff and guests in a traditional hotel are ripe in the context of a villa setting. The chance to ask a knowledgeable local person about the best places to go, how to get there, what to do and so on are all easy and convenient. A relatively profound cultural exchange is more likely making a vacation more meaningful and memorable. Our site http://villaamrita.com

Furthermore, staying in a villa means you can have what you want, do what you want and carry your schedule how you like. There is no such thing as “operating hours” or particular rules about how you must act or what you can and cannot do. Using the kitchen, pool and other facilities when, how and the way you want is your right and privilege. Having your own car and driver rather than relying on taxi’s or shuttles is also a bonus. The great benefits of having a large, luxurious living space with all the amenities you could possibly want at your fingertips is what Villa Amrita is all about.

Eat in Ubud– New Discoveries

In an ongoing effort to find great places for lunch and dinner, we would like to introduce some new options our guests can consider while staying at Villa Amrita.

We know that places like CafĂ©Wayan, Ibu Oka’s and the Lotus CafĂ© are all great, but they are also very well known. We want to introduce some places that might not make it on the radar screen of the average visitor. In fact, we all know how cool and satisfying it is to find a place a little bit off the beaten path that is unique, delicious and even cheap. Whenever I travel good restaurants are one of the most rewarding aspects of going abroad.

Located quite close to Villa Amrita, NasiAyamKedewatan (IbuMangku) was once a bit of a secret. Catering to the tastes of local residents, this unassuming, little warung is a great representation of Balinese cooking. There isn’t much on the menu, other than their classic chicken and rice. Made with shredded spiced chicken, skin, peanuts, vegetables, spicy chili’s and steaming white rice it is a great choice to try something new and delicious.

With two other locations in Seminyak and Denpasar, NasiAyamKedewatan (IbuMangku) is a treat for less than US$2. Guests can sit in the charming little Balinese family compound with traditional red brick architecture and ornate stone carving throughout. If you want something even more authentic, add a refreshing “ice jeruk” drink to have with your meal. All the way down the mountain from Lake Batur, there is orchard after orchard of miniature Balinese oranges. The sweet, cold juice is perfect to wash down the rich and spicy chicken rice.

Find directions from Villa Amrita here: http://villaamrita.com

One more great place to visit is the Melting Pot Warung. Somewhat of a sensation in the era of viral videos and social media, this modest little open-air restaurant has an exceptional chef creating simple coconut cream curry chicken and rice dishes. While there are daily specials and noodles available, their #1 offering is the most unforgettable. It is cheap and filling. If you like eating something spicy you will also be pleased. They make great spicy, pickled vegetable as well. The desert of crème caramel with coconut crème sauce is also delicious.

The atmosphere on Gootama Street is special. Relatively quiet for central Ubud, this area is filled with little boutiques, restaurants, special holes-in-the-wall and other unique places selling all sorts of things from food to art and clothing. A cold beer added to your meal is also a delicious choice. The entire thing can cost you as little as $5. Considering the quality and taste of the food, the Melting Wok Warung is a nice choice for a lunch or dinner.

This place is very popular and requires a reservation for sure if you expect to eat between 6 and 9pm. The phone number is 082 153 666 087. You may see directions to this restaurant here: http://goo.gl/maps/xpS32

By writing about the things that make vacations most special we are trying to make Villa Amrita the best Ubud, Bali Villas. Villa Amrita is a special place for friends, families or lovers to experience the best of the quiet, beautiful and rural countryside and also the fun, shopping and delicious food offered in the city of Ubud.

The People Truly Make the Difference

The last year of my time in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia building a luxury villa I have discovered one undeniable fact about this lovely place. No matter how great your structure, how gorgeous your view, how luxurious your amenities and number of services you offer, if you do not have the quality, trained, responsible, mature, thoughtful, responsible, capable and mature staff to support there is no way you can truly achieve greatness. No matter how exceptional the Ubud or Bali villa, if the right people are not there to give the accommodation the right spirit, the right touch, the right attitude and the level of service that the guests are looking for or what or need, you will always fall below your goal. Villa Amrita desired to create something extraordinary. We aim to be mindful and to live up to high expectations.

Villa Amrita is not an Ubud, Bali resort, but it does have many of the elements of a larger operation. Certainly, the furnishing, amenities and options are nearly identical or are able to compare. While we do not have a private gym or a tennis court we have other things that are as good or better! The chance to really get to know a local person through the course of your stay is often a great joy. Getting a glimpse of the mind and heart of the Balinese on some new level is a pleasure and a privilege. Staying in a Bali villa allows an opportunity to interact with local people much more closely that you might otherwise.

We realize that without the people at Villa Amrita we could not continue to provide one of the best vacation experiences in Bali. One particular special person we would like to call out for his extra special performance, wonderful attitude and dedicated service is our head butler I Wayan Sudana. I Wayan Sudana is a resident of a small village near Keliki only around 10 minutes by motorbike from Villa Amrita. Just 33 years old and a father of two young children, “Sudana” is a sensitive, friendly and thoughtful young man helping Villa Amrita become great. Having been trained in several 5-star hotels prior to settling at Villa Amrita which is located closer to his home, Sudana is the right person to help maintain a high quality standard of cleanliness, preparedness, and operation and service.

We want to recognize the superb and gracious service Sudana has provided to our guests the last six months. Without him we could not have achieved nearly the same level of excellence. Having been praised by name by several of our guests, we are particularly thankful for having such a bright, caring and helpful man gracing our magnificent creation – Villa Amrita. We desire to always do the best no matter what it takes and without exception. We want to make something that is unique and extraordinary.  Without a person like Sudana on hand to offer support and expertise in guest service we would be unable to achieve our goal. There is nothing better than having built a Bali villa in such a special place, except to also have the best people in the area help create a remarkable product that will attract visitors for decades to come.

Villas in Ubud and It's Natural Environment

Ubud villas are special in Bali due to their location and the relative price of land in the area. It is clear that because real estate is cheaper in this area villas in Ubud can be built bigger and on large plots of land. Also, due to the fact that Ubud is less crowded there is less need for high walls and robust security. Furthermore, Ubud villas may also take advantage of remarkable views and the lovely natural environment.

Villas in Ubud differ from their counterparts in the South in that they tend to be more open and integrate better with the surrounding landscape. This is not to say that villas in Seminyak or Canggu do not do this, but as a general rule, circumstances in Ubud allow for more creativity and flexibility with respect to the architecture, style, theme and layout.

A classic villa complex in Legian or Sanur might involve an extensive outer wall, large gate and other measures to protect the privacy and ensure the security of its’ inhabitants. The close approximation to other tourists makes the need for this much greater, not only for greater enjoyment, but also to make the best use of expensive land. The villas in the south of Bali are meant to create a world away from the outside world for guests to seek refuge and sanctuary from crowds, noise and heat.

On the contrary, in Ubud villas borrow more from the classic Balinese way of life by inviting an integration between the natural environment and the villa itself. Tropical open-air floor plans with panoramic views and direct access to rivers, valleys and charming rural villages are elements that make Ubud villas unique. More space is also prominent in villas in Ubud. The price of land is lower, therefore more cost effective to build a larger structure on a larger plot of land. This gives a great feeling of freedom and sense of “ownership”. Guests feel like there is no boundary between them and their immediate environment, creating an experience unlike traditional hotels or villas elsewhere.

There are villas located in the center of Ubud, but these tend to follow the model of the South and are also more expensive. Generally speaking, you only need to travel 5 minutes by car and you will find wonderful villas with incredible scenery, large open spaces and quick access to a wide variety of fun and interesting places to go and see. There are also a lot of different themes when it comes to Ubud villas. From yoga retreats and wellness centers focused on raw, vegan and organic foods, to ultra-luxury gourmet clubs offering the pinnacle of service, dining and indulgence.

Whatever your choice, the slow pace and laid back style of villas in Ubud is generally intended more for relaxation and comfort. Perhaps what some of them are missing in sophistication, they make up for in peace and serenity. Price may also vary, with cost being generally lower than those villas closer to the beach. This is relative as there is a broad range of types, styles and quality with some providing services or experiences that can command top dollar.

Uncovering More Great Food in Ubud

There are a lot of great places to eat in Ubud accomodation cheap. Some are well known, such as CafĂ© Way an, Naughty Nuri’s, Mosaic, Bridges, Murni’s Warung, Ibu Oka, Casa Luna and Lotus CafĂ©. But, some of the best are still the least known. As we have mentioned in the past, one could eat in Ubud honeymoon packages for months and easily never get bored or have to have the same thing.  Part of the Magic of Ubud is the prevalence of high quality food in little “holes in the wall”.

We all have our “secret spots”. Those tiny, hidden joints that serve up some of the best culinary treats one can find. It can be a number of things that make it special; the price, the location, the people and, of course, the taste. Whatever the reason, Ubud is full of places like this. There are so many great places to eat you tend to develop your favorites and often miss out on some very excellent options. There are no less than four great, authentic Italian restaurants in Ubud holidays, all with genuine Italians chefs. The sheer variety is incredible. Even in big cities, you seldom have this much choice and certainly not in such a small area. There is always good food when you go on vacation, but Ubud sets the bar very high in this regard. There is nowhere else that I know of that offers as many options, much quality or better prices.

We are blessed to know of a delightful, little place that has so far remained relatively undiscovered by the tourist trail and is likely to stay that way for the time being. CafĂ© Vespa in Penestanan an, only 5 minutes by car from central Ubud tour and travel is one of these “hidden gems”. Most well known for its generous and high quality breakfasts, this charming cafĂ© offers those-in-the-know a real treat. With fresh spring water on tap, professional-grade baking ovens and some of the best coffee in Ubud, CafĂ© Vespa is an exceptional choice for people who are not in a rush to enjoy a moment to relax, read the paper or chat with a newly-made friend.

Try the spinach, avocado, mushroom and feta with eggs on ciabatta or choose a homemade blueberry Danish with a freshly brewed long black with warm milk. Muesli, vegetables, dahl, quiche, pancakes and salad are all well done. Cakes, pastries and pies are a specialty of the professional bakery chef. The casual seating, pillows, cushions and boutique decoration make the atmosphere homey, inviting guests to stay a while. Grab a book, recent newspaper or other literature to catch up on the scene in Ubud Villas or just bring your “device” and surf the net on the free wireless. The close quarters and new-found popularity of this place make meeting new people easy and fun.

If you are staying at villa holidays or hotel in Ubud you can catch a taxi here for just a couple dollars. You can even walk or ride a bike. The interesting traditional Balinese temple across the street makes the place feel genuine. Café Vespa seems like it is for local expatriates, but is just a short walk from the Four Seasons!

Why Choose Villas for Accommodations in Bali?

The point of a relaxing tropical vacation is to get away from it all, but many times what should be a relaxing vacation feels more like a rushed tour. Villas in Bali provide the ability to truly escape from the day to day chaos that plagues modern life, without losing many of the conveniences we have come to rely on, including wireless internet, newspapers and television. In the following article, we’ll discuss some of the advantages of staying in a Bali villa instead of a luxury hotel.

Peaceful immersion into the local culture. Even the most luxurious hotels are often filled with other travelers coming and going, and while cultural activities may be available, they often feel too staged or rushed. Villas often provide guests the chance to participate in or attend local events, and to be a part of the day to day happenings of a small town, village or city in Bali. Hotels tend to be placed in metropolitan areas, which have their own benefits, but don’t allow for a true experience of what makes Bali unique.

Since Bali villas accommodate a few dozen travelers at a time, and are usually located in secluded sites, they are able to provide guests with a rich, authentic cultural experience. In many cases, a maid or butler may serve guests throughout the duration of their stay, and prove to be an excellent resource of information regarding local culture and customs. Villas customarily include an American style or tropical breakfast prepared in the guest’s room. This luxurious amenity provides guests the opportunity to sample true local cuisine, and perhaps even learn to prepare Balinese food! While secluded and private, villas tend to be located near villages with strong cultural programs and diverse dining options. This provides travelers with many activities to enjoy during their stay.

Staying in a villa in Bali allows you to truly experience the sense of community and energy that is an intricate part of daily life. Villa owners often cultivate extensive floral gardens and provide guests with facilities that integrate the natural beauty of Bali with the comforts and amenities of Western living. For example, some Bali villas include buildings or facilities which are built with roofs to protect from rainfall, but without walls. This design allows the air to freely circulate, bringing with it the rich scent of local flowers. Of course, for bedrooms and bathrooms, walled structures are standard, and air conditioning is often available if desired.

Balinese villas also provide a reasonable option for individuals who wish to maintain a green lifestyle. The villas often use handcrafted local soaps and cleansers, and provide guests with meals made from locally sourced ingredients. This ensures that meals are fresh and of good quality, while preserving the health of the planet. If you are still unsure about staying in a Bali villa, remember that the cost of luxury hotels in Bali is often higher than the cost of staying in a villa, where your concerns come first.

Facilities, Amenities and Services of Bali Villas

If you travel to a luxury hotel, you are expecting to receive certain services, facilities and amenities. You might expect to see toiletries, towels, and clean bedding in your room. You might also expect to see a business center or have access to high speed wireless. Often times, a cold breakfast is also provided, and a concierge or staff member may be available to help you make travel arrangements and pick which attractions in the area to visit. Additional features that you might expect to see include swimming pools and exercise facilities, as well as security features. You might think that staying at a Bali villa means forgoing these amenities, but it doesn’t. Some of the fabulous features of Bali villas are discussed below, so that you can get an idea of what to expect from your stay.

Forget the hotel toiletries that come in small packages and leave your skin overly dry and your hair brittle. Some Bali villas provide unique, soothing and moisturizing recipes from local merchants and producers. Their luxurious feel may leave you asking for information on where you can purchase some to take home with you! Linens are also generally of the finest quality, with a focus on comfortable textures and elegant appearance.

While a business center is not a common feature in Ubud villas, you will often find reliable high speed wireless internet, and many times staff will be available to help you print, fax, or mail documents if necessary. Other facilities such as swimming pools are often present, and sometimes infinity pools, Jacuzzis, hot tubs and other top line spa and pool facilities are provided for your use. Some villas may have private hiking trails or beaches as well. The majority of Bali villas provide 24/7 security and locked, private suites. Security is natural in Bali villas, since outsiders are recognized immediately not only by hotel staff, but by residents of nearby villages and towns. The community atmosphere in Bali cultivates the ability to care for one another, and when you stay in a Bali villa, you are counted as a part of this community.

The community atmosphere in Bali often provides visitors with the chance to learn from a village full of volunteer guides, eager to share their community’s special features or suggest trips to nearby archeological sites, holy places, beaches, and restaurants. If you still find yourself in search of places to go or things to do, Bali villas almost always employ staff to help you with excursion planning and tour arrangements. You can also ask the butler, maid, or other staff person who is working for you during your stay what they might recommend. They have the chance to interact closely with numerous guests, and might be able to provide feedback based on the experiences of previous guests. Staying in a Bali villa, you will notice that luxury and relaxation are easy to come by. All of the features you could desire, and often more, are present in these beautiful facilities.

What Makes Bali Villas Unique?

You’ve already decided that Bali is the perfect vacation, honeymoon, or retreat location for you and your loved ones. Now it’s time to choose where you will stay. As all experienced travelers are aware, the choice of accommodations can make or break your vacation experience. In Bali, there are many options available. You can stay in five star hotels, villas, resorts, retreats, and even beach cottages. Budget and the type of experience you crave may play major roles in your decision of where to stay, but for most travelers, Bali villas are an excellent option. These properties offer a truly unique and authentic experience of Bali’s beauty.

What sets Bali’s villas apart from the island’s numerous other vacation lodgings? No two villas are alike – they each provide unique features and experiences of Bali based on their respective locations and natural settings. You may find yourself in a small villa, tucked into a hillside with rice paddies terraced below you and a fabulous view of the sunset, or you may stay in a villa located on a small green hillside with its own organic farm. Your villa may offer hikes to dolphin watching vistas, or five star meals in a small gourmet restaurant. You might be offered the ultimate in spa experiences, or the opportunity to scuba dive in a remote location with beautiful living coral reefs. The range of experiences offered by Bali villas is limitless, and each one, much like precious gemstones, is unique and beautiful in its own way.

Imagine yourself relaxing in a king-size bed with luxury linens, a light breeze carrying the fragrance of frangipani through your open window and into your room. The sounds of a hot breakfast being prepared in the kitchen help you remember that this is your vacation, and someone else can take the reins in food preparation. When you finally choose to meander into the kitchen, a beautiful gourmet meal is laid before you, a mix of American and Indonesian favorites. That is life in a Bali villa.

Breakfasts are almost always included in your stay in a Bali villa, and in most villas you can also opt for local, and sometimes organic, fare to be prepared in your room by the chef. Forget about stress and cleaning up mess after mess, butlers and maids are available to help with your needs and to clean up your quarters. You can ask Bali villa hotel staff to set up a massage appointment for you, or prepare a luxurious flower bath. If you aren’t in the mood for spa treatments, take a few minutes to relax and enjoy the privacy of your villa.

Unlike hotels, where busy crowds of tourists are constantly milling about, in a Bali villa, you set the pace. There is no reason to race, and you can stay as far away from the rest of humanity as you choose, although the proximity of Bali villas to villages and towns makes it easy to rejoin the crowds whenever you wish.

Exceptional luxury villa in Ubud Bali in Indonesia

One of the greatest aspects of building an exceptional luxury villa in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia is the wonderful and convenient access to a massive variety of high quality international cuisine. You can find dishes from just about everywhere on Earth with fabulous examples of Italian, Thai, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, American and French cooking readily available. You can find great food in a lot of big cities, but Bali is surprising, and Ubud in particularly, in that it offers some of the tastiest and most varied dining in Asia.

Realizing that fantastic natural beauty, quiet, comfort and luxury are only part of the equation that makes an Ubud, Bali villa attractive and successful, Villa Amrita has continued to up-its-game with improvements to its culinary offerings. In addition to a lovely, little menu of classic Balinese and Indonesian foods such as fried rice, noodles, slow-roasted duck and broiled pork we have decided to add a proper gas BBQ grill.
Villa Amrita has purchased a brand new, high quality western-standard gas grill to provide a new element of culinary option to our guests. The choice to use our gas barbecue grill is something that has been welcomed and received with great pleasure and excitement. There are endless combinations of yummy foods we can create with such a device. American and Australians might indulge in steaks, whilst our European and Asian guests may opt for grilled fish, calamari and prawn.

What’s more, the close proximity of the fully-stocked international standard Bintang supermarket just 8 to 10 minutes’ drive from Villa Amrita, gives our guests many great options for lunch and dinner. Nice filet mignon, rib-eye and other fresh meats are available. Cooking up a great big beef burger with cheddar cheese and fresh, organic lettuce and tomato on multi-grain buns would be a perfect evening in while playing in the pool and listening to music under the stars.

A trip to the Bintang supermarket is great to get munchies, alcohol, meats, veggies, fruits, cheeses and much more at reasonable prices. Bring your take back to Villa Amrita and indulge yourself.

Grabbing some salmon steak from nearby fresh fish supplier Sakanaya is also an attractive choice. Shrimp, lobster, crab, squid and more are all just within a short drive. The addition of a proper gas BBQ grill allows Villa Amrita to offer something other Ubud accommodation may or may not be able to match. The flexibility, low cost and ease of fixing a barbecue meal is something that makes Amrita an exceptional villa in Bali.

On a snorkeling outing at a nearby white sand beach in the turquoise waters  of Padang Bai, guests can pick up a cheap tuna fish freshly caught by local fisherman. Upon return to Villa Amrita, our chefs can create a lovely basting sauce, with lemon, garlic and chili to make the fish come out great! Combine this tasty meal with one-of-a-kind ice cold Bintang beer (made by Heineken) or a gin and tonic and you will create an unforgettable vacation evening.

No matter where in Bali your luxury villa is at, access to  nice, cheap food while on vacation is something that we cannot be without. A Bali resort would not be able to provide you with something as savory and satisfying as having your own chef and BBQ grill at your beck and call. Villa Amrita is looking to raise the bar among Ubud accommodation to create lasting memories for a loyal following of discerning, repeat guests.

Bali Villas - Villa Amrita Extraordinary Ubud Villas

It has been less than 6 months since Villa Amrita formally opened for business and it has been a really exciting, interesting and fun process. I think it would be fair to say that managing our dream accommodation is also a lot of work. One might call it a labour of love. The fact is, there is a lot to consider and a lot to learn.

The quite warm reception we have had so far from our guests has been encouraging. We knew the land and the design were going to be special, but we never knew exactly what Villa Amrita had the potential to become. Through a lot of research, learning and discovery about Bali, Ubud and the visitors coming here we have discovered that Villa Amrita is a truly unique property in Ubud.

We have explored the entire area around Ubud and have seen and toured a plethora of hotels, including villas and other styles and levels of accommodation. We now know that Villa Amrita is one-of-a-kind and nearly in a class by itself. If we had not taken the time to explore this market we would not know that one, three-bedroom villas in Ubud are a fairly limited product and, two, that Villa Amrita is definitely one of the best-of-breed in this area.

When first building Villa Amrita we spared no cost and had envisioned something done to a standard that would even surpass or impress our own eye for quality and comfort. The location is close enough to Ubud to have easy access to the fine restaurants, shops and entertainment there, yet far enough away to enjoy the utter peace and freshness of the lovely rural community that is just a short drive, but, seemingly, a world away.

Villa Amrita - The Little Things 2

As we noted last time, it is really the little things that make all the difference. It usually takes a long time to build a reputation and a brand. If it were quick then not only would everyone be involved, but certain things in life would be less valuable, interesting or fun. Villa Amrita is just one of many villas in Ubud, Bali, but we strive to make a difference. We try to be mindful so that our appreciation, love and passion for our guests, Bali and its people shines through.

Guests have come to expect the most when booking Ubud villas. They know the architecture, design, materials, staff and the natural environment are all likely to be top notch. The area is blessed by nature and the people show that character. There is much to experience, see, do, learn and accomplish while on vacation in Ubud, even if that “accomplishment” is simply relaxing, reading a book or eating a lot of good food! Villa Amrita will always try to maintain an environment that gives guests all the things they might need or want while visiting.

So as a thoughtful and professional accommodation in Ubud, Villa Amrita has installed a CCTV system (closed-circuit) to always ensure the highest level of security. This allows us to record and monitor the perimeter of the villa. This means that we can always know who comes in, how and when. We only preemptively install these cameras because we know that security is always very important to all people.

Secondly, we have purchased top of the line in-room safes for each bedroom. You can see a picture attached to this article. We replaced our previous safes because they could only operate on a key and were difficult to use. They were also small. The bottom line is that the new safety boxes provide the level of comfort, ease of use and peace of mind that guests coming to Villa Amrita wish for and desire. These safes are very strong, can be audited for security, can accommodate a 15 inch laptop and have the option of being operated with the guests’ physical credit card instead of a PIN code. They are the kind that one sees in the best hotels in the world.

We hope that everyone always has the best time at Villa Amrita, Ubud, Bali.

Villa Amrita: Dining in Ubud

There are many great things about staying at Villa Amrita for your Bali vacation. The lovely rural atmosphere, beautiful scenery, comfortable living area, soft beds and gracious, caring staff are all nice reasons to make Villa Amrita your choice while in Bali.

Remarkably, most people who come here don’t realize Ubud is full of incredible food. Apart from a big city, I don’t think there is anywhere with more variety of high quality foods from all over the world than in Ubud. Of course, we all know Seminyak is also a wonderful mecca of great food, but Ubud has numerous uncovered, underrated and incredibly tasty choices running the entire gamut.

While some restaurants are so popular they do require reservations, most are open and available at any time. Keep in mind that some restaurants do close at 10pm so it is advisable to give them a quick call before you go if arriving somewhat later in the evening. Just let Made Taro Wardita or WayanSudanaknow where you would like to go and they will prepare everything. A ten minute drive and you are in a veritable food mecca!

We have compiled some nice pictures (we hope) of some nice dining options in Ubud here.

A Variety of Interesting Creatures Can Be Seen At Ubud Villas

Another cool thing about villas in Ubud is the wide variety of interesting animals one can see while on vacation. There is no doubt that in a tropical climate like Bali, the number of critters of all shapes and sizes is significant. The fun thing is that many of these are the kind of thing we would not normally see in our everyday lives, especially for city dwellers. This can be an exciting and fascinating lesson about ecology in a unique and exotic part of the world. Indonesia is very bio-diverse with a number of difference climates that feature a variety of curious creatures.

Some basic ones you might see at Ubud villas like Villa Amrita are a wide array of different types of frogs. Some big, some small and some tiny, Bali’s frogs also make/emit a surprising variety of sounds. It is particularly extraordinary how big a sound can come from such a small animal. It is also incredible (and also very cute) to see a frog that is really, really tiny like in the picture here.

At one time, fire flies were practically ubiquitous in Bali. Now, one only tends to see these fantastic flying insects in cool, remote and undisturbed portions of the island. Villa Amrita is one Ubud accommodation where you can see them almost every day of the year. In the evening, while in the pool or hanging out on the balcony, one can see the little flickers of light in the canopy of the trees in front or out hovering over the rice fields. What a cool treat!

There are many creepy crawlies, lizards, spiders and other insects. Butterflies are also very common. We have never seen a snake, but we imagine they do exist somewhere. There are many bats in our area and they can be seen around dusk each night swooping in and out of the trees and over the pool snatching insects with their sensitive sonar capability.

There are plenty of chickens, cute ducks and other exotic birds, including some eagles, king fisher and much more. Monkey, dogs, cows, pigs and even elephants are no doubt some of the most prominent larger animals that visitors might see.

Ubud villas are a very nice place to observe a bit of nature in a comfortable and convenient location. If you want to make some special memories try to book your stay at Villa Amrita.
